ILLUSTRATION
Responsible for creating visuals using a variety of techniques and media. Works with two-dimensional art forms, using shading, perspective, and color to produce scenes.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Create illustrations and designs for print, books, pamphlets, leaflets, trade publications, and other forms of media.

Utilize digital formats to create sketches.

Decide on appropriate style, technique, and medium to produce desired results.

Work with animators to concept on designs.

Design video game sets and sequences.
-
Create storyboards for films or commercials.
-
Illustrate textbooks or children's books.
-
Work with printers on typeface and paper.

Collaborate with publishers on ideal designs.

Draw diagrams that show how to maintain, repair, and use machines and appliances.

Compose illustrations of geologic and planetary formations, animals, and plant life for publication in teaching materials.

Adjust the mood and style of images.

Negotiate price and deadlines.

Use computer-aided design (CAD) packages to scan images and change size.

Develop new business.

Create original pieces for portfolio.

Research galleries for exhibitions.
GRAPHIC DESIGNING
Responsible for creating a visible image that can be used in media and print. Uses software and hand-rendering to design products that meet the needs of the client.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Meet with clients to establish a vision for a product or design.

Select colors, images, textures and shapes to create the layout.

Select the size and arrangement of the different elements.

Use computer software to create electronic versions of designs.

Employ color, type, illustration, photography, animation, and various print and layout techniques when designing project.

Develop material for web pages.

Design logos for products and businesses.

Develop signs and environmental graphics.

Produce credits after movies and programs.

Create promotional displays, packaging, and marketing brochures.

Develop the layout and production design of magazines, newspapers, journals, corporate reports, and other publications.

Meet with art directors to collaborate on design.

Perform research on competitors and market trends.

Collaborate with printers to select type of paper and ink.

Submit rough drafts to client for approval.
